My favorite blog reader....

Past 3 days have been super draining, but so inspiring and moving. Brett's grandfather passed away early Sunday morning. While it was such a sad time for family, it was so inspiring to hear about the life of a faithful pastor. Brett got the privilege of speaking at the funeral. Such beautiful words about a man who was faithful in every area of his life.

I'm a little sad in writing this entry....for a long time it was hard for me to keep up with my blogging. I wasn't very committed. About a year ago, "Grandaddy" asked me why I didn't update my blog often and that he loved reading. So I kicked it back up. He was one of my first blog readers:) Because we live so far away from them, he was able to keep up with our lives through the blog world. So today I will miss my favorite blog reader:)

At 12stone Today

P.K. has given such challenging messages the past two Sundays.....of course they are ALWAYS incredible, but the past two weeks have been very challenging to me personally. Today was about what the "full life" really looks like. That the essence of full life is not just getting poured into, but for the majority of the time it is pouring out, giving life, giving water....He used the illustration of the woman at the well and Jesus asking for water. I think this might be up there with one of my favorite stories in Scripture.

I so encourage anyone who missed a service at 12Stone today to stop for a moment and go listen to it here.

flowers

I really wouldn't consider myself a super "crafty" person....or Martha Stewart by any means, but I do enjoy working with flowers. In high school and college I worked at a florist and loved every second of it!

I am throwing a baby shower tomorrow afternoon for one of our sweet middle school volunteers. Here are some pics of the gerbera daisies (which are my favorite!) I put in a vase for the centerpiece and a cutsie corsage for the mommy to be:) I'm not a master...but it's fun:)

Brett came to school:)

B. usually comes 2 or 3 times a year to read to my students. Here is a pic. of his most recent visit! My kids absolutely love it when "Mr. Moore" comes....they ask him a million questions and they told me they really like his hair...so cute!

New Book!

You should stop over at "Leading and Loving It" sometime over the next few days. Lori is doing a book give away on "Eyes Wide Open" a new book by her hubby. As you can see from my Shelfari list, I am a fan. B. and I got "uncensored grace" for Christmas. We couldn't quit telling people about it, so we decided to take our small group through it....then B. ordered "Crazy little Thing Called Love." So yeah...we have thoroughly enjoyed both books by Jud and we are sure this one is great too. So go over to Lori's blog and comment!

date night with B....best Mexican food ever and Frog legs??

I ran 9 miles yesterday, so I felt that I deserved Mexican for dinner last night. We ended up at Uncle Julio's in downtown. AMAZING!!!!! As you walk in, you can see them making homemade tortillas in the tortilla maker. It was hands down the best Mexican food I've ever had!

Only one thing concerned me....they served Frog legs! I had no idea that Frog legs were such a Mexican delicacy! This was the first time I've ever been to a restaurant that served Frog legs! I'm not sure how I feel about it, but I do know that despite frog legs making its appearance on the menu...it was some of the best Mexican I've ever had!

Thanks for a great date night B.! I love date nights with you:)

an old essay

So I had to dip into my old college portfolio and dig up an essay for something I'm working on for this summer. Here is a "Place Essay" I wrote for my Creative nonfiction writing course. I teared up a little as i read through it. It's full of lots of great memories from my life. Thought I would share for fun:) Enjoy.

Sunday Lunch at Mama June’s
All is calm as I pull into the short driveway leading to her house. The wind blows through the trees, the old feeble dog saunters out to greet me. To the untrained eye, the small home on the hill of Hwy. 27 seems to be a quaint cottage filled with warmth and peace. Unbeknownst to many, there is a volcano of activity contained within the old walls of this small home. An eruption of laughter and screams greet me as I open the screen door. I make my way through the living room to the kitchen where an old needlepoint hangs in a frame. It says, Be not forgetful to entertain strangers: for thereby some have entertained angels unaware. I turn and see her standing over an old cast-iron skillet. She is my grandmother, Mama June. It was at her house every Sunday at noon that I ate and laughed with my family. It was every Sunday at noon that the pieces of my life were shaped and brought together.
For as long as I can remember, my entire family has gathered to eat at Mama June’s for an “old-fashioned,” Sunday lunch. Every week the distinct smell of okra, green beans, cornbread and squash casserole filled the tiny house. My cousins all chased each other around the table, while the others screamed for them to stop. After we all have greeted one another she would yell with her thick, Southern drawl, “It’s time to eat. Y’all get on in here.”
We would sit down to the long, brown table, which only seated twelve people, but it almost always expanded to seat fifteen or twenty. As we stuffed our faces with the most delectable, down-home, country cooking, everyone began to talk. So many conversations started all at once that the once recognizable mix of multiple conversations soon became a mumbling drone of baritone and bass notes thrown together so wildly that you would ask yourself, “What was he saying?” or better yet, “Who was saying that?”
To wrap it all up, my grandfather always told one of his timeless narratives. Not a sound could be heard throughout the house as we listened to him tell one of his stories taken from his childhood or during his time where he fought in Korea. It was so picturesque. My grandfather sat with a piece of cake in one hand, a cup of ice cold sweet tea in the other, and my four year old cousin on his lap.
A few moments later, I would sneak Mama June away for just a few moments to fill her in on the latest details of my life and in return I received a piece of pound cake, which was homemade with an entire pound of butter. Finally, I always made my way back through the kitchen, hugged all good-bye, and would take a plate of leftovers for the next day. Outside the old feeble dog waited to greet me once again, but this time to see me off.

A bracket

Something that has never happened:

The P.E. coach asked ME at work to fill out a bracket for the NCAA March Madness Bball tournament with some of the other teachers. This was very shocking to me for many reasons....mainly bc I'm not an avid sports watcher like my husband. If I ever have anything to add to a conversation about sports, it's usually bc I hear my husband's comments as he passionately watches each game....so yeah....I can talk the talk, but really and truly if I have anything worth adding to the sports conversation...it's due to my super, fabuloso husband who keeps me up on my sport talk.

So I filled out my bracket...with B. of course, I put lots of thought into it, and here is a pic. of my bracket. Louisville all the way baby!

Just a few things

A Few Things that Made Me Happy Today:

1. Watching a little girl in our neighborhood look for 4 leaf clovers.....I guess St. Patty's day inspired her. It was really cute.
2. Driving through our neighborhood, a dad was balancing his two little girls on his knees as he drove them on the lawn mower.
3. Matt Kearney's new single, "Closer to love." He's one of my faves, so the new album coming out in May is very exciting for me!
4. Meeting with my sweet small group of 8th grade girls.
5. The yellow jonquils and beautiful dogwood trees that are blooming...EVERYWHERE!

Art of Marrige

Today at church Dr. Les Parrot spoke in all 3 AM services at Hwy. 20 and then did some afternoon sessions at "The Art of Marriage." B. and I went through one of Parrot's books in our premarital counseling and it was such awesome material and great info. for getting us started. Today we have been married for 3 years and the info. Dr. Parrot gave was still great info! People that have been married for 1 year, people that have been married for 50 years...all of us walked away challenged! Great insights and great fun!

surprise engagement party and a trip back home.

Tuesday night was so much fun! My closest friends and I all made the long trip home to Cton to helped plan my best friend's surprise engagement party! She had no clue! She thought Wade was going to propose in San Antonio, but really he did it in Cton and we all got to plan the surprise engagement party right after he proposed! She had no idea we all had come into town! It was so much fun and I am so excited for her and Wade! Pray for them...they are going to be serving at an awesome church in Bentonvllle, Arkansas. Brooke is so wise and will be an amazing wife! I could get all sappy bc she has been my best friend and closest friend since 5th grade, but I'll save that for the post after the wedding in Aug!

So it's been an awesome week.....Tues. night with childhood B.F.F. Fri. night with college B.F.F!!

B.F.F. is back in my life and downtown:)

So my B.F.F. from college, Sara, just moved to the Atl area for a job, and I am so loving every sec. of it! Lately, my mission has been to show her all the cool parts of our downtown area. Last night was Einstein's and Cafe Intermezzo! We had the best time and I am so thankful to have her around. Here are some pics from the super cool tea we ordered at Cafe Intermezzo.....we both felt like little princesses...it was the ultimate tea set! The pics aren't that great bc it was dark and well...iPhone doesn't do well in the dark.

What middle school worship is like...

Here's a pic. of a typical middle school night! This kid is on his 10th jelly donut. Following this we watched a student drink an entire bottle of ketchup. Gotta love middle schoolers:)

A tough one...

I am going to be very transparent today...my heart is very heavy this week and very burdened. It is no secret thanks to the Atlanta News and every newspaper in the Atlanta area that the county (along with many of the education deptartments in the state)I work in is struggling this year. We just found out this week that our county alone is losing almost 200 positions. The recession truly hit home with me this week and my heart aches for families and the "worry" thing I so struggle with at times came back in full gear. "Worry" is something I have always dealt with and this week I have worried for friends, for administrators, for everyone! I am never at a loss for words...NEVER! But this week my words haven't poured so heavily....they are very dry. So while this isn't the most encouraging post....I feel it is one that you can see the things I struggle with.

Anyone else have the weasel of worry pop into your lives like this???

Love Tuesday nights.

Tonight we had small group.....so many different things were brought up tonight, but one thing I loved....the faith of the sweet friends in our small groups. Their faith is so strong and just very Godly....no other way to say it.

Specifically, two couples in our small group have just recently begun their faith journey, and you know....it is refreshing to see the awakening in their souls. They are so hungry and it is so evident that God is using them in ways they never dreamed possible!

I guess for me it's a great reminder. I too hope my soul is always awakened to things of Him.

Just a random thought

I think we need help!

Also...after watching a 45 min. infomercial on P90X we have now ordered this new fitness system! I don't know what's wrong with us....we are def. the target audience for health stuff. juiceplus, advocare, p90x, marathons....all we have to do is be told the research behind it and we are SOLD! YIKES! Not sure that this is a good thing....but I think we are pretty healthy for it...usually we only do this with health stuff. Maybe my arms will get super buff and muscley too......highly unlikely, but you never know???

Anybody else give into the infomercials???

Vitamins

Here I go again on my vitamin kick. B. and I have been taking Advocare Vitamins for quite sometime now. It's been great but I've been doing some reading lately and we are going to give juiceplus a try. It's got TONS of the fruits and veggies that your body needs and it just looks great. We'll see! I'll let you know after we've given it a good try!

Teething bling over at Chattahoochee Mama

Alright people.....Chattahoochee Mama is at it again...that's right she's giving stuff away again! This time it is acutally something that I can really comment on...teething bling! She mentioned this gift right before Christmas and this ended up being part of my sister's Christmas gift! She has loved it and has my sweet niece Kennedy! So go over and comment at Chattahoochee Mama so you can get one too! Here's a pic. of the one I bought for my sister.

I just ordered some prints from there for the house! Love them so much....go check out etsy!

Snow Day in the Atl!

Can you believe this is the first snow we've had in Atlanta all year....and on March 1st! It was 70 degrees two weeks ago and now this!!! Crazy stuff, but I love it...and I also love that this means I will probably have a day off tomorrow! Here's a pic of our house and the beautiful snow that has been falling for the past 2 hours!!!
