Flooding in the Atl.

So Atlanta has had quite a bit of flooding lately.....actually more like TONS! So many different pockets of Atlanta got hit pretty hard. Several school systems have been out all week. The pictures on the news have been terrrible....but I don't know that any made me as sad as the picture of Clarksdale Elementary in Austell....about an hour from where we are. I can't imagine. All those books, supplies, books....here are a few pics. Also, our local Atlanta Schoolbox stores are taking up donations for Clarksdale.

Where the Wild Things Are - Official Trailer

There are not enough words in my heart to express how incredibly excited I am for this movie! One of my all time fave picture books as a child.....still is one of my favorites. I love watching picture books come to life:) It will be interesting to see how they expanded the story line.

pulling for Abby:)

Have enjoyed watching Biggest Loser the past few years...but I don't think I've ever been as inspired as I was this past week's season premiere. Abby is competing this year...2 years ago she lost her husband, 5 year old, and 6 month old baby in a car accident.

It's so inspiring to watch her. So yeah..... I'm pulling for Abby this season.

Thankful for Obedience over Fear.

Started a new small group. Going through "Crazy Love" by Francis Chan with some of the Middle School Volunteer ladies.

My previous experience as a small group leader: leading small groups of 6th,7th, and 8th grade girls and leading with Brett in a couples small group.

Confession: I was super nervous about our first meeting. Not sure why...probably bc I've never led a group that wasn't a group of girls under the age of 13 or with Brett. I was super excited about starting this group, but nervous at the same time.

Reality: As always, it was such a blessing and I left feeling so thankful for all of them. I sat amazed as I listened to their incredible stories and journeys they have taken with Christ..... and I was thankful for what we will learn in the coming weeks as we study.....the things I will learn from them.

What I walked away with: Unfortunately, this is something I come back to every now and then...something I know, but something I have to be reminded of every now and then.......being obedient will always win and He will show Himself when we are obedient. When we take risks, put ourselves out there, and follow in obedience....fear is overcome and He wins.

Thankful for obedience over fear.

Braves Game

B. and I at an Atl. Braves game last Friday. Went with the Davis'....had the best time. I have been going to Atl Bravs games since I was 7....they never get old. love um.

best date ever comment

Leading and Loving it had such a fun post today...she asked her readers to share the best date they went on with their spouses.....wanted to share what I commented...it was so much fun writing it out:

This is such a great post! I love reading about everyone’s dates! So sweet….So here’s mine:
When we were dating in college we lived about 3 hours from each other…..I’ll never forget when he called me at 3am and woke me up. He told me to look outside my dorm window…he was standing outside (I went to a really cons. Christian school..so no boys allowed inside:)!) I went outside and he was just standing there in the freezing cold with a dozen yellow roses! So super romantic:) He took me to get a cup of coffee at this whole in the wall diner close to my school. We talked for a few hours and then he drove me back and went home.

best date ever:) love him so much….still love talking over cups of coffee…..loved writing this comment:)

Why I love Twitter today:)

I am so loving this Twitter deal....maybe loving it too much. Here were my two favorite things from Twitter today (yes, I have a new favorite Twitter thing just about everyday!):

1. John Mayer updates his Twitter ALL the time....I love this simply bc he's one of my favorite artists.
2. John Maxwell posted this:
johncmaxwell@ steps of effective mentoring: 1) I do it; 2) I do it & u watch; 3) U do it & I watch; 4) U do it.
-thought this was a quick snippet of strong leadership.

So yeah...I'm loving Twitter World:)

Small Moments in Basketball:)

So, today I was teaching my kids how to write a small moment in our Writing time. I modeled the story of when I scored my first basketball goal. Let's just get this out there: 1. I was and still am a HORRIBLE basketball player....yes, I am tall but htat doesn't mean ALL tall people are good at basketball! 2. This is a little dramatic, but using lots of details and being a little over the top makes for good stories for kids to get the point. 3. just thought you all would get a kick out of it:)

"Get in the game Dixon!"
Coach yelled at me. It was the first time I had played the entire game. Although I don't blame her for not putting me in, I was a terrible ball player. Dribble, dribble, dribble down the court. I could feel the sweat slowly begin to pour down my face. The sound of the ball hitting the ground up and down, up and down brought on an entirely new level of intensity.
The point guard passed the ball to me. My heart froze..."What was I going to do now?' I thought to myself. I looked to the left and saw people screaming, "Shoot it!" I looked to the right and saw my mom holding her breath, and in front of me.... was a solid white basket. I looked again, but there wasn't anymore time. The girl from the opposing team was screaming at me like a wild animal. I had to shoot. I could feel a huge lump in my throat. Butterflies wasn't even close to how sick I felt at my stomach. "One, two, three...here I go...just shoot it Lane." Slowly from the bottom of my toes to what seemed like the highest point of my head, I jumped as high as my little body would take me. Whoosh! The basketball that I once held so tightly to my hand had now made its way smoothly through the clear white net. I looked over at my coach and she had a huge grin across her face. I didn't see her do that a lot, so I knew she was proud. I looked at my mom and she was breathing once again. I had done it. I had scored my first basketball goal.

PS.
I was 14 at this time....def. not a kid. Def. 14! Lame...I know:) makes it even funnier!

What about you? Am I the only one who was absoloutely TERRIBLE at a sport?

Good Word on Parenting

Watched a great video tonight on Parenting and Leadership. Don't know much about this obviously bc we don't have kids yet, however, we will one day....and it was some great advice!
One line I will keep in the parenting bank: "parent as if you're not in leadership."It's good stuff...but you need to watch the whole thing. Check it out here.
